Hello and blessings
My name is Morag Donnachie and I offer postnatal Doula support to women and their partners in the Fife area.
What is a Doula?
The word "doula" is greek and essentially means "woman servant". These days it has come to mean a lay person who offers support to women and their partners/families during pregnancy, birth and the early weeks after birth. Usually mothers themselves they, in effect, mother the mother offering support during the time of transition. They do not offer clinical or medical care.
The care offered by a post natal doula varies from family to family but will involve emotional and practical support for the woman and her family. This can take the form of; popping a load of washing in the machine and running a hoover over the house, or looking after the baby (and/or other children) so mum can get a nap or a bath or something, chatting about any worries and concerns and directing you to the right place for help if needed or just being a shoulder to cry on and someone to make cups of tea.
